The Mantorville Theatre Company is proud to present its production of Church Basement Ladies, Friday, February 6 through Sunday, March 1, 2015, at the Mantorville Theatre Company, located on 5th Street West in Mantorville, Minnesota. Shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m.
Church Basement Ladies, by Jim Stowell and Jessica Zuehlke with music and lyrics by Drew Jansen, was inspired by the book, Growing Up Lutheran, by Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson. The church basement kitchen is the heart and soul of any church. In this musical, we meet the pastor, three main kitchen cooks and one daughter--they run the kitchen and feed the congregation. And as with any great kitchen, problems are solved here as well. We see the four women handle a Lutefisk Dinner, a funeral, an Easter Fund Raiser, and, of course, a wedding, as they stave off potential disasters, have fun, share and debate recipes, instruct the young, and keep the pastor on due course.
The Mantorville Theatre Company has tried for years to get the rights to produce this outstanding look at the Midwest church basement kitchen, and we are very excited to finally bring the show to the stage. The touching and poignant scenes offset the laugh-till-you-cry music and dialog in this outstanding look at the Midwestern church basement kitchen.
